Helping children and youth achieve their potential.

Priority Outcomes:

  • Children enter kindergarten developmentally on track in terms of literacy and social, emotional, and intellectual skills.
  • Third graders read at grade-level proficiency.
  • Young people graduate from high school.

Funded programs are focused on educational objectives:

Early Literacy - to ensure children surpass key school readiness and early grade level reading benchmarks. (ages 0-12)

Youth Success - help to ensure children graduate high school with the skills necessary to pursue post-secondary education or vocational training. (ages 13-18)

What if every child had five years of education before they started school? In fact, they do. Children are born learning and from birth to age five, a child learns at a speed that is unmatched the rest of his or her life.Children who have nurturing, healthy and supportive experiences in their early years are much better prepared to succeed in school and life.

United Way "Reading Buddy" Program

Research proves that caring volunteers who work with students have the power to help kids boost academic achievement and help set the track for a bright future. Volunteer Reading Buddies support elementary-level students (K - 3rd grade) with reading progression during a one-hour per week, school year duration. Reading Buddies play an important role in the lives of struggling readers. Not only are they a mentor, but a friend making a lifelong impact in a child’s life.
