Accountability

Good stewards of your dollars

United Way of Lewis County is committed to accountability and transparency. We have a responsibility to donors, partners, people receiving services and the wider community to ensure that the dollars entrusted to us are invested wisely and that we operate efficiently.

Here is how we make sure that we are accountable and transparent:

  • We regularly assess the performance of organizations in which we invest grant funding.

  • We demonstrate financial accountability through an annual audit conducted by an independent certified public accountant whose examination complies with generally accepted auditing standards and GAAP. We have a history of receiving unmodified options. Additionally, we maintain a finance committee which routinely reviews financial performance and accountability issues.

  • We provide our IRS Form 990 and Audited Financial Statements to the public on our website, at our office, or upon request.

  • Our board is all-volunteer and governs our policies and financial resources. We strive to make our board representative of the local region.

  • Every staff member, board member and volunteer committee member signs a code of ethics that includes provisions for ethical management, publicity, fundraising practices and full and fair disclosure.

  • We comply with all applicable local, state and federal operating and reporting requirements.

  • We are a member in good standing of United Way Worldwide and have completed all membership requirements. We submit to United Way Worlwide a report of the total resources we have generated. This report must be completed according to a policy that ensures an accurate, unduplicated national accounting for the United Way system.
